what are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your computer by a web site. They can be used to store any information about a visitor that a site wants to keep. Our goal with cookies is to speed up your browsing experience by not asking you to verify your login information when viewing our premium content and to customize your browsing experience. We do not store credit card or sensitive personal information (like your address or phone number) in the cookie. We only store your name, ipodata.com userid and session information regarding places you've been and things you've done on our site. Cookies are a record only, they do not contain any code that could be infected with a virus, damage the contents of your hard disk, or send information about your computer to us.

how does ipodata.com use cookies?

  • Save your userid (not password) to automatically log you into the site when you go to our home page
  • Customize our site to your preferences
  • Keep track of minor things such as the sort order and direction on a page
We plan on expanding the use of cookies in the future to further customize your browsing experience on our site. We would not go forward with these plans if we felt cookies were not completely safe to use.

how can you control cookie usage with your browser?

  • In Microsoft's Internet Explorer 5.x from the menu choose TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS. Choose the SECURITY tab and then click the CUSTOM LEVEL... button. In the COOKIES section choose one of the three options to regulate your use of cookies.
  • In Microsoft's Internet Explorer 4.x from the menu choose VIEW then INTERNET OPTIONS. Click the ADVANCED tab. Scroll down to the yellow exclamation icon under SECURITY and choose one of the three options to regulate your use of cookies.
  • In Microsoft's Internet Explorer 3.x from the menu choose VIEW then INTERNET OPTIONS. Click the ADVANCED tab. Click on the button that says WARN BEFORE ACCEPTING "COOKIES".
  • In Netscape Navigator/Communicator 4.x go to VIEW then PREFERENCES. Click the ADVANCED category and in the COOKIES section choose one of the three options to regulate your use of cookies.
We will never programmatically change your browser settings to accept our cookies. It is completely your decision to accept cookies or not. However, we strongly suggest using them since they can greatly personalize your browsing experience if they are used correctly by a site.

where are cookies kept?

If you use Internet Explorer, within the Windows operating environment, you can see all your cookie files by going to your C:/WINDOWS/COOKIES directory. If you use Netscape Navigator you will have a cookies.txt file in the Netscape directory. You can view the contents of a cookie file with any text editor (such as Notepad).

Cookies are stored on your computer so if you use more than one computer the information that is stored will not be present when you use any other computer. If you delete our cookie file from your primary computer you will remove your login information and you'll have to log in again to reset your cookie information (if you did not turn off cookie in your browser after deleting our cookie).
